Vittoria Gilda Miranda (Madama Butterfly) was a recipient of the Distinction Award at the Metropolitan International Voice Competition, a Verdi Edition Finalist at the XIII Altamura/Caruso International Vocal Competition in 2013, and a finalist at the Classical Singer Magazine’s Convention Competition in 2011. Previous roles have included Verdi’s Violetta in La Traviate, Gilda in Rigoletto, Nedda in Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci, Marguerite in Gounod’s Faust and the title role in Donizetti’s Lucia Di Lammermoor. Vittoria is thrilled to be making a debut in the title role of MADAMA BUTTERFLY. Vittoria joins us in Charleston from New York.
Nathan Matticks (Sharpless) received his bachelor of music from the College of Charleston. He was a regional winner of the National Association of Teachers of Singing Vocal Competition and a finalist in the MetroWest Opera Vocal Competition. He made his professional operatic debut as Morales in Carmen opposite Denyce Graves with Louis Salemno conducting the Charleston Symphony.
A rapidly rising young baritone, Nathan has been hailed for his ‘suave baritone’ (Broadway World) and “sonorous, full-voiced” sound by Parterre. 2017 saw major role debuts as the title role in Verdi’s Rigoletto, and both Yamadori and Sharpless in Teatro Lirico d’Europa production of Madama Butterfly at the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts and the Kirby Center for the Performing Arts. Valentin in Faust, the title role in Don Giovanni, Enrico in Lucia Di Lammermoor, Escamillo in Carmen, Lescaut in Manon Lescaut, Silvio in I Pagliacci, and Danilo in The Merry Widow. Nathan is delighted to be performing again in Charleston!
Jorge Alexander (Pinkerton) is a Venezuelan born Tenor. His passion for music began as he studied violin at age six with the National Youth Orchestra – Puerto Cabello, Carabobo State. Then at 18 attended Schola Cantorum De Lara from where he trained with and was selected by Angelo D’Adonna, the Symphonic Orchestra’s President, to perform with the Lara Estate Symphonic Orchestra’s Opera Choir. His studies continued in the Cátedra de Canto of the Conservatory Vicente Emilio Sojo.
Since moving to the United States, Jorge has worked with and performed several times at South of Broadway Theatre, sang in televised concerts from the Charleston Coliseum. He was invited to sing and was recognized at the Baltimore City Hall by Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake for the Hispanic heritage celebration month. He currently makes his home with his family in Maryland.
Esther Rose Williams (Suzuki) mezzo-soprano, graduated cum laude from Furman University in 1996, earning a B.M. in Vocal Performance. She is an active soloist and recitalist throughout the Southeast, appearing with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Music Charleston, and Charleston Chamber Opera. In the inaugural season of Chamber Music Charleston, Ms. Williams was the featured vocal soloist in recital at Juilliard School of Music. She has worked with vocal coaches Shirlee Emmons and Bill Lewis in New York and studied voice with Mary Gould, Margaret Kelly-Cook, and Bruce Schoonmaker. Ms. Williams is a prize winner of the SC Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions for two consecutive years. Ms. Williams premiered song cycle Slanted Sunlight by composer John Wagner at the Newberry Opera House.
